Investment Associate, Japan

A leading global investor focused on sustainable infrastructure is seeking an Investment Associate for their Tokyo office. The firm delivers strong returns alongside measurable social and environmental impacts, leveraging extensive operational expertise and a significant global presence.

Purpose of the Role

Based in Tokyo, the Associate will support senior team members in deal execution, financial modelling, and detailed commercial due diligence within the Energy Infrastructure sector across Japan and North Asia. This role provides extensive exposure to diverse transactions and opportunities for professional growth in infrastructure investment.

Main Responsibilities

Deal Execution and Origination

• Lead financial modelling to evaluate investment opportunities
• Conduct detailed financial and commercial due diligence, identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies
• Support the full deal lifecycle including transaction structuring, negotiations, and closure
• Prepare investment memos and presentations for internal committees
• Identify and research market opportunities to expand the deal pipeline

Portfolio Management

• Assist in portfolio management activities, including financing, operational improvements, and exit strategies
• Prepare detailed valuation analyses and investment performance reports

Collaboration and Sector Expertise

• Coordinate effectively with global teams, industry specialists, and senior leadership
• Participate in broader strategic initiatives and investor communications

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Relevant experience as an Analyst or Associate within private equity, investment banking, or top-tier transaction advisory
• Strong skills in M&A transactions, financial modelling, valuation methodologies, and financial due diligence
• Understanding of private equity investment principles and value-creation strategies
• Interest or experience in Energy/Infrastructure investments strongly preferred
• MBA, Chartered Accountant, or CFA qualification beneficial
• Proactive, analytical, detail-focused, and highly organised
• Excellent research, communication, and interpersonal abilities
• Fluent in English and Japanese
